I grew up in Stamford, Connecticut, on Long Island Sound. Although Stamford is a good-sized city, the apartment my family lived in was over a retail store, what we now call ‘mixed use’, and the neighborhood was very close-knit and walkable. I think that is why, after moving to California in 1972, I made my home in Ocean Beach, Pacific Grove and, eventually, Encinitas. I appreciate their small town atmosphere and character. I may not have liked Connecticut’s cold weather but I love the charm of a place that has a history. My husband Michael and I have been together for 22 years and in 1992 we purchased our home in Leucadia. For the last 28 years, I have worked as an Office Administrator, for the same employer. I have studied at Monterey Peninsula College and City College, San Diego.
MY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT INCLUDES:
- Founding member of the Community Park Council (1999). We were instrumental in greatly improving the original plans for the Greystone development on Vulcan. We successfully convinced the City and the developer to implement our ideas, resulting in a larger neighborhood park (Leucadia Oaks Park) and an improved drainage system that is more natural and effective.
- Leucadia Town Council Board Member since the non-profit organization was revitalized in 2001, and President since 2006.
- Via a weekly email update, LTC keeps its membership informed about pertinent situations that pertain to the quality of life we enjoy in Leucadia. I have often attended meetings of the City Council and Planning Commission, as well as other forums, to represent my community and give input based on our communal needs.
- LTC was instrumental in the establishment of the Leucadia-Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association and works with them on events and issues along the Pacific Coast Hwy 101 Corridor.
- Since 2006, LTC has awarded an annual $500.00 scholarship for a graduating high school senior who intends to continue their education.
- Leucadia 101 MainStreet Association Board Member and Secretary since it began in 2003. I have served on many committees and participated in all of the events that have contributed to maintaining the character and financial viability of the North101 Corridor. I worked with City staff and the Council to have temporary sidewalks installed where there were none and have already begun participating in the Streetscape planning process.
- Member Friends of the Encinitas Library.
- Member Encinitas Taxpayers Association.
